This page is dedicated to the design and construcion of Le Poulet Gauche for Pennsic XXVII. For those of you that stumbled upon this page accidentally, here is the LePG homepage.
What we are trying to build is an accurate representation of a 16th century tavern. This means that we aren't building a perminent structure, as we need to be able to dismantle, transport and store it easily. However, we need to keep the illusion of a building that has been in place for 200 years or so.
The construction style is called exposed beam, timber framed, wattle and daub, or similar. Here are some pictures of the type of construction we are attempting to portray.
This is how the building and tent fit on the 30'x50' plot that food
merchants are allowed.

This is the front 3/4 view of the proposed building.
The main entrance is the door to the left, with a 5'8" figure shown
for scale.

Left
hand side of the building.

Close-up of the entrance, and the tavern sign. The
money-changer will be directly inside the door.
Rear view showing how the Grimm's tent will cover
the rear of the tavern, and provide the kitchen area. Note that the
wall next to the road is removed here for clarity. It will be in
place.
